What's In A Name?

Ruby Ellen Cribbs
As of last night, we finally decided on a name for our little darling. We chose Ruby...which means "precious jewel"...because it's the better of my dad's two choices. The other option was Tallulah. Hahaha. In truth, one day my dad was throwing out strange and random names and one of the names he mentioned was Ruby. It caught my attention and stuck with me throughout the rest of my pregnancy. And we chose Ellen as her middle name to honor a very wonderful woman...our dear friend, Ellen Singleton. Ellen is a great example of a godly woman and we are honored to have our girls know her and spend time with her.

We are so in love!

It's Baby Time!

Our hope is to keep you updated on the labor and delivery of our little one. So, here we go...
5:10am water broke, woke dave, called my mom to come stay with zoey
6:00am mom arrived, getting packed and showered
6:45am first official contraction
7:05am hanging out at home waiting for the contractions to kick in
8:15am my mom took zoey, I cried
9:20am still at home, waiting for the hospital to call us back
9:33am heading to the hospital
10:50am all checked in, 5-6 cm dilated
11:30am baby's heartbeat sounds great, I'm allowed to get out of bed
1:06pm baby girl cribbs is welcomed into the world
I'm so sorry we weren't able to blog more during the labor. Everything happened so fast. I feel so blessed to have had another natural, drug-free delivery. I feel amazing. Dave is with our girl in the nursery right now and I think she's getting her bath. We don't have a name, yet, but as soon as we spend some time with her I'm sure we'll find a name that fits her. God is so good!

You know your belly's too big when...

...your maternity shirt refuses to contain the baby bump.

Well, here I am at 38 weeks. I had an appointment with Heather this morning. Dave and Zoey were able to come with me this time since Dave is on Spring Break. I'm still about 4-4 1/2 cm dilated and still 50% effaced. So, there hasn't been much progress since last week. Everything else looks great and I'm measuring right at 38 weeks which is surprising to me since I feel sooooo much bigger than I did with Zoey...and with Zoey I consistently measured 2 weeks big. I was hoping to have delivered by now so we could have used Spring Break as part of the time Dave wouldn't have to take off from work. But, I guess that is not part of the Lord's plan. Because I had convinced myself that I would deliver around 36 weeks, I feel as though I missed the deadline and missed out on having this baby. But then I see our packed bags sitting on the floor and it hits me that I'm still pregnant and going to deliver this baby regardless of the silly time frame I placed on myself. I am so anxious...in the best way possible. I cannot wait to meet this kiddo. I cannot wait to see if it's a boy or girl. I'm so excited!!!

37 weeks

I had another appointment with my midwife, Heather, this morning. I am sitting pretty at 4cm dilated and 50% effaced. I would love to go into labor tomorrow...on Friday the 13th.

36 weeks, 1 day

Today I am 36 weeks and 1 day pregnant. And this is the day in my pregnancy with Zoey that I went into labor. Yikes! I saw my midwife, Heather, yesterday and she said I was 2 1/2 cm dilated but only 20% effaced. When I was checked during my pregnancy with Zoey I was 2 1/2 cm dilated and 80% effaced. Heather said that first babies usually efface quicker than second babies. So, now it's just a waiting game. Will I deliver in the next few days or will I go to term? My mom delivered both my sister and me at 36 weeks and my first labor and delivery was identical to both of hers. There is no way to know when I'll go into labor but just to be on the safe side...we have the car seat in the car, we have all the baby clothes washed and put away, we have meals made and frozen, we're caught up on laundry and we have the bags out and ready to be packed. I feel better knowing we're at least prepared this time and even if I carry this baby for another 4 weeks, we'll still be ready. My plan for when I do go into labor is to bring the laptop to the hospital and keep everyone posted via the blog. We'll see if that actually happens. So, stay tuned for further baby updates.

Homemade Wipes

Homemade Wipes Recipe
What you need...
-1/2 a roll of paper towels, cut short ways (I prefer Bounty or Brawny...see picture below)
-1 sealable container (I found mine at Target on the container aisle...see picture below)
-2 cups water
-1 Tablespoon baby oil
-2 Tablespoons baby soap
-
Instructions...
Remove the cardboard tube from the inside of the paper towel roll. Stuff the paper towels into your container. In a bowl or measuring cup, gently mix the water, oil and soap together. Pour mixture evenly over the paper towels. Let it sit for a while to absorb. Pull the towels from the center of the roll when ready to use.

Hope you enjoy!
